★Scent - Based on the traditional Old English Wassail Recipes - Spiced Apple with hints of Ginger, Cinnamon, Clove and Blood Orange, amongst others.
"Wassaile the trees, that they may beare,
You many a plum, and many a peare
For more or lesse fruits they will bring,
As you do give them wassailing." = Old English Rhyme
Wassail this way is actually the oldest Yule scent on store, based on the ancient English custom of Wassailing, and the traditional beverage that accompanies it.
The spell energy behind it is protective and uplifting, perfect for the difficult moments throughout the winter season.
Blood orange is one of my personal favourites - it invigorates the spirit & emotions from feeling particularly low.
Protective spells are always beneficial but this one wards against seasonal blues too.
One legend about how wassailing was created states that a beautiful Saxon maiden named Rowena presented Prince Vortigan with a bowl of wine, while toasting the words "Waes hael" (good health.) Over the centuries many traditions have sprung up around the tradition of Wassailing but most include a traditional spiced apple wine or cider, on which the anointing oil is based.
This beautiful anointing oil is based around a traditional Wassailing recipe and embodies the energies of honouring the harvest and celebrating the trees, as well as the merriment of the season, the joy and magick of the season!
In addition this works wonderfully to bring peace to any unsettled energy within the ancestral line.
I always think December is a key time to give offerings to the beloved dead, as it was a scary time of scarcity for our ancestors... and I wonder if ancestral wounds of scarcity feed into our current shadows of splurging & overspending in the Winter months.
Could giving more offerings to the beloved dead in December ease this for us? I think that it definitely can! This beautiful blend can be used for just that.
Magical correspondences:
★ Apples in Witchcraft - There are many ways in which apples make their way into spellcraft, but did you know they are traditionally used in the creation of a kissing bough:
"...a decoration using two hoops, one thrust through the other, and bound with evergreens, holly and ivy, and rosy cheeked apples specially reserved for the occasion. Inside, dolls are hung, male and female, with other brightly coloured baubles. At the bottom of the decoration a bunch of mistletoe is carefully tied, and the whole tableau is suspended in the middle of the room, the centre of attention. Every berry on the mistletoe bears the promise of a kiss, and for every kiss given or taken a berry is removed. When all the berries are gone, the kissing has to stop! (Hedingham Fair)" - Goddessandgreenman
★ Ginger in Witchcraft - It soothes stress and anxiety helping a space and aura to feel calmer and easier to relax in so that stress vibrations aren’t adding to a lack of protection.
★ Cinnamon in Witchcraft - a vast and powerful herb, Cinnamon is used in many types of spellcraft including Protection and strength of Spirit, Love spells and attraction work - it really does spice things up! Cinnamon can also be used for Luck, Wealth, Fertility & Personal power.
★Clove - fabulous for putting a stopper in gossip (great for the holiday season, no?) And clearing out negativity.
★ Blood Orange is one of my favourite essential oils (and fruits!) It is deeper and richer than regular orange, it is uplifting, anti-depressant and calming side can help you take a deep breath and refocus when money issues are stressing you out.
It is associated with the Sun, which brings magick of prosperity, growth, and being seen. Perfection!
These energies combined create a loving warm atmosphere which is perfect for merriment, or just keeping yourself energized and level headed in the Yule season!!!
